The Noble Guardian
by Michelle Griep
Was it wicked to say goodbye with a smile?
I love introductory sentences packed with meaning! Nine words, but here’s what they convey:
Someone is happy to be leaving. So happy, in fact, that it brings a smile to her face. (I read ahead so, yes, it’s a woman.) And despite the boldness of her smiling – or contemplating smiling – she feels some compunction about its propriety. Either for its own sake or for the sake of those she’ll happily be rid of.
What’s the first line of the book you’re reading? Or the book nearest to you?

I just finished reading this one early this morning. I couldn’t go to bed until I had finished! I loved it! Its such a fantastic story!! I may need a nap later 🙂
Over on my blog, I’m sharing the first line from Sherrinda Ketchersid’s debut novel “Lord of Her Heart”. Here I’ll share the first line from chapter 11 of the same book.
“Tension filled the air as servants jostled each other in a frantic pace to prepare meals for those at the tournament.”
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
I’m almost done with it – and I need a nap too! I didn’t want to put it down.
Have a great weekend, too! Checking out Lord of Her Heart!
LOOOOOVE that cover!!! The first line from my current read, The Highest of Hopes by Susan Anne Mason is:
“There was no turning back now!”
It fits the book so well with the carriage behind him too. Very interesting to read what’s basically a road trip novel set in 19th c. England!
Oh!!! I can’t wait to read this book, especially after reading that line! Today I’m sharing the first line from The Brave Art of Motherhood by Rachel Marie Martin:
“Over the past five years, I’ve lived what I’ve jokingly called a public private life.”

Great first line for a nonfiction book. Draws you right into to discovering how her private life became public.
I’m going to be reading this soon – love Michelle’s writing! The quote I’m sharing on my blog today is from the novella collection An Amish Reunion. This is the first line from page 81 of my current read, Who I Am With You by Robin Lee Hatcher:
“Ignorance, Ridley discovered, isn’t bliss.”
Have a great weekend!
Ah, great line. Sometimes it’s really not, right?
I can’t wait to read this! I just finished Ladies of Intrigue, and it was so good! Happy reading!
I won a copy of Ladies of Intrigue on Goodreads! It’s on my TBR pile now. I’ve enjoyed every book by Michelle Griep that I’ve read!
