Reading is my favorite way to relax! I’ve read a few of Carolyn Astfalk’s books and thought it would be nice to talk about how she got started writing fiction.

Come Back to Me & Ornamental Graces
October 9, 2020
I won’t give any details about how it all turns out, because I think you should read this book! But suffice it to say that Come Back to Me drives home the message that love is more than just a feeling, it’s a CHOICE–sometimes a really hard one to make. But when a couple puts God first in their relationship, they can weather all storms. With God’s grace, those promises made in their wedding vows–“for better or for worse”–are much easier to keep.

Saints in the Making: Better with Every Re-Telling
November 21, 2020
If I were to pick a single book I’d like my children to read, re-read, digest, and absorb, it would be Lisa M. Hendey’s I’m a Saint in the Making. This deceptively simple picture book pre-empts existential crises and imbues children’s lives with purpose and meaning. No lie.

This simple meal was a perfect use for our remaining apples. We tripled the recipe for our family of six, and it was more than enough. Most of us preferred the powdered sugar to the maple syrup, but it was delicious both ways.

Writing Catholic Novels featuring Carolyn Astfalk
December 16, 2020
I think you’ll find Carolyn’s work to be relatable and relevant because she’s not afraid to write about characters who deal with issues that many Catholics (and non-Catholics alike) have faced but won’t talk about, like infidelity and pornography addiction. Yet, the beauty in all of this is how she shows us that we’re all still lovable and capable of loving others. Her characters give an amazing example of how to live that out.

Looking for a Bestie Between the Pages

Do you have any book friends?
In other words, do you have fictional friends who inhabit books?
The best writers, in my mind, are those who create a world so real, characters so multi-dimensional, and writing so smooth that I can get lost inside the book. The characters’ senses become my senses, and my heart beats in time with theirs through joys, sorrows, and fears, sometimes aching, sometimes beating fast.
